The S.T.E.L.L.A.A. Blog Tour

It is almost autumn! My favourite season (hence the lovely autumn leaves in the background). No, it’s not autumn yet, but I’m looking forward to September as I’ve been invited to participate in the very first blog tour for S.T.E.L.L.A.A., or “Stella’s training, education, literary learning and academic assistance”. This fabulous non-profit organization is entirely volunteer run, and their mission is to give the tools to end poverty.

To celebrate International Literacy Day 2012, S.T.E.L.L.A.A. has organized a blog tour featuring really fabulous blogs written by some pretty big names in the Canlit blogging world, not to mention the Steven Leacock Award for Humour winner and the 2011 Canada Reads winner, Terry Fallis. Pretty big honour to be listed alongside such an excellent writer.

You can see the tour schedule in the poster, but here’s a more accessible list of the blogs you’ll encounter on the tour:

September 8th: Launch of the tour with Terry Fallis
September 9th: Vanessa Grillone
September 10th: Amy McKie
September 11th: Jenn Lawrence
September 12th: Yours truly
September 13th: Angela Hickman
September 14th: Mara Shapiro

So what does this mean? Well, I’ve prepared a few questions for S.T.E.L.L.A.A. co-founder, Joanna Ferensowicz, about the importance of literacy in Sub-Saharan Africa and also here in Canada. Stay tuned!

In the meantime, if you’re looking for something to do to celebrate International Literacy Day (in Toronto) you could go to Book Camp TO and talk to other writers, readers, publishers and the like about literacy and books. You could also get more involved with S.T.E.L.L.A.A. and plan a book drive! More information can be found here.

As a final note: Looking at the fabulous poster for the tour, I realize that I either need to leave blogger for wordpress, or pay the big bucks and get a domain name. I mean, “Books Under Skin”? Such a great name for a blog, Angela!
